Get to Know Hearsay: Varadarajan Rajaram, Head of Actions Product

The newest extension of the Hearsay platform is Hearsay Actions. A solution that measurably improves business outcomes through engagement workflow automation, Actions extends best practice enterprise workflows to agents and advisors. And make no mistake: Actions is a game-changer. So when I recently had the opportunity to talk to the new head of the Actions product, Raja Varadarajan, I jumped on it. What is your role at Hearsay and how long have you been at the company?

Raja Varadarajan, Head of Actions Product

I joined Hearsay about 4 months back and my goal is to take the Actions product from its infancy to the next biggest growth area for Hearsay.

Why did you join Hearsay?

Before I joined Hearsay, I was fortunate enough to take a break from work and it gave me time to think about my next gig. Three things were critical for me in my next role – freedom to define and execute a vision, culture of the company, and finally, leadership. Hearsay ticked all those boxes for me.

I am impressed and continue to be impressed by the leadership here at Hearsay and the culture of the company. It’s an immensely employee-focused company where everyone is respectful, collaborative and helpful. I am encouraged to try new things, failing is an option as long as you fail fast, learn from it and adapt.

What’s something that has surprised you about working with financial services institutions? 

The fact that most financial institutions have “Pilot” groups focused on piloting new technologies with a decent budget where they all want to move fast. This is especially critical for newer products such as Actions where it often might be hard to get an audience.

Where do you see Fintech heading?

I see all financial institutions trying to provide personalized customer experience whether it is an insurance agent trying to make sure the customer has policies and products which are best suited for the customer, a claims adjustor being able to text with the insured to capture pictures of the accident using a mobile phone to process the claim as quickly as possible or a wealth advisor reaching out to do tax planning ahead of time with a client. At the same time, they are trying to increase the productivity of the agents and advisors and cut costs down.

Technology such as Hearsay Actions is critical in enabling these institutions realize these by automating these interactions between the agent or advisor and the clients. This not only increases customer satisfaction, but also increases productivity and frees up the time of the agent/advisor to put the focus on the customer.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Have fun with my kids, biking, photography, impromptu road-trips & travel – I have just 1 more continent to cover!

If you had to plan a spontaneous weekend trip for this weekend, where and what would it be?

We love the outdoors and the mountains. You will most likely find us at the foothills of the Sierra in summer hiking or skiing/snowboarding in winters.

Favorite place for coffee/food/drinks in your city?

My favorite for drinks in the city is a really cool, low-key neighborhood bar called The Royal Cuckoo. The best part (other than the drinks) is that they have live music with an organ.
