Welcome Kevin, Hearsay Social's VP of Business Development

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate my birthday than starting at Hearsay Social as the Vice President of Business Development.
The social media space isn’t new territory for me; my last gig was Vice President of Strategic Business with KickApps, a social media platform that allows enterprise business brands to build a social presence. Though I really enjoyed working with the great people and clients at KickApps, when friend and Hearsay Social board member Bryan Schreier contacted me about an opportunity with Hearsay Social, I was intrigued. Having spent the last 15+ years in the Internet space, including companies like SeaBridge and Cisco, I’ve witnessed the social trend reaching the tipping point and I knew Hearsay Social would be a key player.

This became even more evident at the AF Expo, where Hearsay Social CEO Clara Shih delivered a keynote on the seven habits of highly successful Facebook marketers. In the past, audiences of expos like this were made up of rogue marketers, “disruptors,” and early adopters. But looking around the room, I saw senior-level executives and traditional marketers from major brands eager to get moving on their social media efforts.
It’s become increasingly clear we’ve moved beyond the “toe-dipping” stage of social media. Organizations are no longer asking “Should we do this?” and are instead asking, “How do we do this and how quickly can we get moving?” Social media has taken its rightful place alongside more traditional marketing like direct mail; it’s become a line-item in the marketing budget instead of a “nice-to-have.” There are now VPs, teams, and divisions devoted to social media, and there are no signs of this trend slowing.
I’m looking forward to getting to know the good folks at Hearsay Social, and really diving into what we can do for our customers. I have my first round of customer meetings this week. I’m very excited to listen to what they have to say and learn about their social media needs, and then moving them from the “how” to the “now” using Hearsay Social.
…And, of course, I’m also looking forward to birthday cake.
